Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Moustakbal Returns to the Netherlands

Werkendam / Sliedrecht, 8 mei 2025 – Filia Dredging, based in Werkendam, has acquired the trailing suction hopper dredger “Moustakbal”, with support from DE Klop BV of Sliedrecht. This acquisition marks the vessel’s return to its birthplace, as it was originally constructed in 1999 by IHC Holland in collaboration with Scheepswerf Slob in Papendrecht and was completed and delivered in Sliedrecht.

The Moustakbal, featuring a hopper capacity of 1,500 m³, is designed for maintenance dredging operations in shallow coastal areas and ports. Having been laid up for several years, the vessel is set to undergo a comprehensive refurbishment. Initial renovation work will commence in Casablanca, where the ship is currently located.

Willem van Berchum, Filia Dredging:
“The acquisition of the Moustakbal represents a significant step in Filia Dredging’s ongoing professionalization and growth. This addition not only expands our operational capacity but also strengthens our position in both the national and international dredging markets.”

Cees-Wim van Noordenne, DE Klop BV:
“Bringing the Moustakbal, a vessel with Dutch roots, back home and preparing it for a second life is a remarkable endeavor. The Moustakbal is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.
